Getting Started

Getting started with digital titles from your library

All you need to borrow digital titles from your library is an internet connection and your login information.

If you're using a tablet or smartphone, you may want to download OverDrive's free mobile app, OverDrive Media Console (OMC), to easily find and save your library's OverDrive website and to borrow and enjoy titles on your device.

Borrow titles with one click

If you're using a tablet or smartphone, use the OverDrive app's Add a Library (or Get Books) feature to find and save your library's OverDrive-powered website. On any device with a browser, you can also find your library's site using www.overdrive.com.

On your library's OverDrive-powered site, click the Sign In link in the upper-right corner to sign into your Account using your library card credentials. You'll then be able to search the complete collection of digital titles available at your library branch.

Once you find an available title to borrow, move your mouse over the title (or tap it on a mobile device) and click Borrow. Borrowed titles will appear on your Bookshelf under your Account.

Read in your browser with OverDrive Read

You can instantly start reading a borrowed eBook right in your browser using OverDrive Read (if available). No extra software or login is required.

From your Bookshelf, simply click Read next to a borrowed eBook to begin reading.

Reading ebooks

The easiest way to read an ebook from OverDrive is to choose OverDrive Read as the format. This means you will read the book in your internet browser.

There is no need to download an app to do this. An advantage of reading a book in your internet browser is that you can move from device to device without interruption.  For example, if you start reading a book on your iPad and then move to a desktop computer or laptop, you will pick up exactly where you left off!

All of the ebooks in OverDrive (for both staff and students) are available in this easy to use format.

OverDrive App

If you are are using the OverDrive App...

Scroll down until you find "District Professional Library" and then click on it

You will need to enter your login credentials (see box at the top of the page for instructions).

If you have a public library card, you can also add your public library and check out their e-books too!

Dear Library Partner,
We're delighted to announce that a new version of the OverDrive app for Android, iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), and Windows 8 is scheduled for release in mid-September.
This update features the long-awaited elimination of the Adobe Authorization step from the app installation process -- one of your most frequently requested enhancements! To continue to fulfill the requirement for copyrighted materials, users will register for an OverDrive account instead. We expect this change will significantly reduce library support questions and provide excellent benefits to users like syncing reading progress across multiple devices and saving libraries and common searches.
When the new app is released, first-time users will be prompted to create an OverDrive account. There will be no change for existing users who already have an Adobe ID or OverDrive account associated with their OverDrive app, even after they update to the newest version.

OverDrive v3.2 will also feature the following updates:

  • The app name will be shortened from "OverDrive Media Console" to "OverDrive."
  • Users will be able to return Open EPUB titles before the end of their lending period.
  • OverDrive Help articles and videos will be updated with the release of the new OverDrive v3.2 experience. To help you prepare for the changes, you can watch an overview of the new OverDrive app

Thank you,
OverDrive's Library Partner Services
