Jazz on the Green Thursdays, July 5-Aug 9 at Turner Park at Midtown Crossing


Free and Open to the Public  Performers to be announced!

Warm nights. Cool grooves.  Get ready to wrap yourself in another season of Jazz on the Green at Midtown Crossing presented by Omaha Performing Arts. You determine the pace – laid back or lively. We'll supply the place – Turner Park: beautiful, centrally-located, perfect for a jazz lovin' crowd.

Attendees are welcome and encouraged to bring: blankets and chairs, sunscreen and flat shoes. Please leave the following at home: tents/tarps/stakes, open flames and hard liquor.

Performers and times to be announced!

Now in its 4th year, the Zydeco Festival is a regional music festival, featuring the finest and most treasured musical artists from the New Orleans, Louisiana region. Performers will be announced in late spring 2018!

Come hungry! Midtown Crossing restaurants set up booths in Turner Park and offer delicious takes on Cajun and creole food favorites. Past menu selections have included alligator on a stick, a crawfish boil, jambalaya and more!

Attendees are welcome and encouraged to bring: blankets and chairs, sunscreen and flat shoes. Please leave the following at home: tents/tarps/stakes, open flames and hard liquor.


Tempo of Twilight at Lauritzen Gardens

Tuesday evenings from June 12 through July 24, 2018 6 to 8 p.m.    Members Only Concert June 5, 2018
June 12, 19 and 26, July 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2018 

These family-friendly outdoor concerts provide a unique atmosphere to enjoy wonderful musical entertainment. Weather permitting, concerts are held outdoors. In case of rain concerts may be moved indoors or cancelled.

Due to the unique nature of the concert series, guests are allowed to bring chairs, food and beverages on Tempo of Twilight nights only. The gift shop is open and the café serves an abbreviated menu. We encourage visitors to carpool when possible as there is limited parking available.

Dinner specials are available at $7 per person (with bottled drink) and $6.50 per person (with canned drink). Additionally, chicken salad sandwiches, fruit cups or watermelon, salad cups (chef's choice of: pasta, coleslaw, orzo or potato), cookies, chips, novelty ice cream treats and beverages will be available.

Concerts are free for garden members or are included with paid garden admission.

Vibes at Village Pointe  The 2018 Vibes Summer Concert Series is now scheduled on THURSDAY evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m., May 31 – Aug 9. 

Concert guests can enjoy a cold beverage at the Brew Patio hosted by Kona Grill, Inc., and ice cream by Cold Stone Creamery!

Saturdays at Stinson  May 12-July 28   7 - 10 pm  Join your friends every Saturday night in Stinson Park at Aksarben Village for the Saturdays @ Stinson Concert Series. You will be entertained by the most talented bands in Omaha and the best part its FREE! There will be food and drink vendors, face painting, balloon artists, kids will play in the fountain and on the playground equipment. For the concerts you may bring chairs, blankets, an umbrella, and coolers. Please bring koozies for your cans and plastic cups for other drinks as no glass is allowed. Please do not bring tents, canopies or stake anything into the ground. Please have fun and enjoy your time in Stinson Park! Aksarben Village…where there is always something fun going on!

Sounds of Summer Concert Series at Shadow Lake Towne Center  June 1-Aug 10  Grab a blanket or a chair and join us every Friday from 6:30-8:30pm all summer long in the Amphiteatre sponsored by Nebraska Medicine – Bellevue for an exciting concert line-up sponsored by 961 Kiss Online.  Enjoy a cold beverage or a bite to eat from our patio host, Hy-Vee (Papillion, NE). Rockbrook Village Friday Night Concert Series   June 1-August 31  Fridays  7:00-8:00 PM   Local musicians entertain families every Friday night throughout the summer. Depending on the night, you’ll hear rock, jazz, pop, blues, latin… you name it! Bring a lawn chair and enjoy a delightful evening with the whole family.

Bridge Beats @ the Bob Kerrey Bridge   June 29-August 17  Fridays  6:00-9:00  Bring your whole family and enjoy free, live music as you take in beautiful views of the Missouri River and stroll across the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.

A story of quick tongues & a false death kick off this year's Shakespeare On The Green.

Rounding out Shakespeare On The Green is a look at inheritance and illegitimacy, as John fights his family and the French to keep his throne.

A female take on conspiracy and assassination’s aftermath. Join the women of Nebraska Shakespeare as they hit Rome to take on Caesar.

The Festival is Omaha’s premier destination for arts and entertainment featuring 135 of the nation’s finest visual artists, a stage of continuous musical performances and a hands-on Children’s Fair.  The Omaha Summer Arts Festival is located in the heart of downtown Omaha on Farnam Street from 10th Street to 15th Street. The Festival site lies directly south of the Gene Leahy Mall and one block north of the historic Old Market district.

Railroad Days  July 14 & 15 2018    $15 Per Family (Two Adults, option to add additional adult for $5)

Admission to Lauritzen Gardens, Durham Western Heritage Museum, Rails West Railroad Museum, Union Pacific Railroad Museum, and Historic General Dodge House.  School busses or trolleys run set, one-way loops between locations.

Get Started with The 2018 Great Park Pursuit

The Great Park Pursuit (GPP) encourages participants to visit up to 20 GPP sites located across Nebraska between May 1 and September 17, 2018. Players follow clues that will lead them to a GPP post, where they use a pencil to make an impression of the post or use the mobile app to prove they were there. Prizes and entry into drawings are based on the number of impressions collected. The grand prize is an outdoor recreation package with a retail value of $750.
The goal of the GPP, a partnership between the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska Recreation and Park Association, is to promote active lifestyles while increasing awareness of the state’s nature-rich outdoor recreation opportunities. Since 2008 more than 22,000 Nebraskans have enjoyed the adventure the Great Park Pursuit offers.

Free Outdoor Movies

Movie Nights at Camp Fontenelle   May 30-October 26   Freewill Donation   Times and days of the week vary

Our barn area offers a great place to watch some popular movies on our 12’ screen hung from the trees!  At dusk, a movie will be projected using our LCD projector.  Bring the family or grandkids for an outdoor movie experience! Feel free to arrive early and cook your supper over one of our 5 fire rings before the movie starts. Keep the fire going and make s’mores during the movie! Our website also lists start times for the various nights.  Bring a lawn chair and/or blanket and enjoy the outdoors at a "sit - in" movie.  No movies will be shown if the weather is rainy.

Starlight Movie Series at Sumtur Amphitheater   May 25-Aug 10

Enjoy free popular movies under the stars all summer long with pre-show entertainment before each movie. Gates and concessions open at 7:30 pm with movies starting at dusk. Movies and dates are subject to change.

Omaha Public Library Summer Reading Program

Libraries Rock! OPL invites you to learn, create, use your imagination, and have fun with friends through its annual Summer Reading Program. Summer is the best time to read for fun and earn great prizes while you’re at it. All ages are invited to participate. All 12 OPL locations will have free activities and programs throughout the summer to keep the entire family engaged, entertained and motivated to reach reading goals.

Kids' & Teens' Program

Get a prize pack by reading or listening for 10 hours. Log time each week for additional chances to win drawing prizes, including gift certificates.

Adults' Program

Read or listen for 10 hours to receive earbuds, a coupon for a free book, and entry into a drawing for gift certificates to local venues.

OverDrive Summer Read

OverDrive Summer Read is an annual program designed to encourage your students to keep reading all year long. The titles selected can supplement other summer reading programs, and will offer free, simultaneous access to students from June 6th– July 18th. The collection of titles will be prominently displayed on your OverDrive-powered website in eBook format.

HPB Summer Reading Program

Kids 14 & under  Read 15 minutes a day to keep up an appetite for reading all summer long.

Download and use this reading log in June and July. Add up your minutes and have your parent or guardian initial each week. Once you've reached 300 minutes or more, bring your reading log into your local HPB store to claim your Bookworm Bucks on or before August 30, 2018.
