Hello! My name is Mr. Levitt and this box is all about me! Omaha Public Schools hired me in August of 2008 and I started at Prairie Wind Elementary School on September 8, 2008. I moved to Omaha, NE from Fargo, North Dakota. Before moving to Omaha, I had never been to the state of Nebraska!
I started in Education as a Substitute Teacher in Fargo, ND, West Fargo, ND, and Moorhead, MN. Before that, however, I was an aircraft mechanic in Everett, Washington (a northern suburb of Seattle). I have one brother and one sister. My brother's name is Michael and he is a neurosurgeon in Seattle, WA. My sister's name is Rachel and she is a marketing agent in Minneapolis, MN. My mother, Helen, is a nurse. My father, Ralph, is a doctor who teaches people to be doctors at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. My parents have a dog named Tessa.
I have many degrees from different Universities! I have three bachelor's degrees from the University of North Dakota. The first has to do with aircraft maintenance and the other two are early childhood education and elementary education. I have two Masters Degrees too! My library masters degree is from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. In 2014 I got my second Masters Degree from Michigan State University. It is in Educational Technology.
In my free time, I love to read books, play video games on various different devices, search the internet or otherwise play around on computers, play golf, watch hockey, watch football, and play board games with my friends. I also love to travel. I've been to over 30 of the 50 states plus various places around the world! I also run a Drama Club at Prairie Wind, which is something I love dearly.
Students at Prairie Wind Elementary School visit the library visit the library once a week. The students check out books twice in a ten day cycle. Checkout periods start at about one week's time and, depending upon the popularity of the book or the purpose for checkout (such as a book report), can be renewed up to two extra times (so up to a 3 week checkout period). Book report books are due at the first library period after the book report due date. Certain books, such as Ripley's Believe it or Not!, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Guinness Book of World Records, certain books connected with school organizations and clubs (such as Read to Succeed and the Golden Sower Club), and any book that has a list of hold requests cannot be renewed due to the overwhelming demand for those books.
Books allowed per checkout by grade:
Kindergarten: 1-2 books
First Grade: 2-3 books
Second Grade: 5 books
Third Grade: 5 books
Fourth Grade: 5 books
Fifth Grade: 5 books
