Library Hints

How to Raise a Reader

Read to your child everyday.  Have your child see you reading.  You can read a book by looking at the pictures first, talk about what the book is about and then start to read the story.  Always ask your child questions about the book or have them tell you about their favorite part.  Read more and watch TV a little less.

What's New in the Library?

  • We are excited for the beginning of school.
  • Fourth - sixth graders picked two subjects to explore
  • There are new Center activities around the library.
  • New and exciting books will be coming soon.
  • Soon - watch for news about our visiting author.

Clubs and Activities

Bookworm and Wiggleworm Book Clubs

Read 25 books - fill out a worm card on each book - turn the sheets into the library.
Once you have read 25 books, your picture will be taken and put on the board outside of the library and you will receive a free book.  Do this throughout the year and you could get many free books.

  Reader's Theater Club

Do you like to put on plays and read with feeling?  Then the Reader's Theater Club is for you.  The club meets every Wednesday morning at 8:15 in the library.  Club members will read, practice, design masks and perform plays in front of audiences.

Adopt-a-Book- You can adopt a book 3 ways

First -   Twenty six books have received a new life in the library.

Old, unattractive and never checked out books are chosen and read by students.  After they have read the book they will write a report about it and rate the book with 1 star for not so good to 5 stars meaning it was great.  Students will then get a large piece of white paper and design a new cover for that book.  Once students see the cool and creative covers, the books start to get checked out again.

Second - You have the opportunity to be part of the Chandler View Library forever by donating only $5.00 to the library.   By joining the ADOPT a BOOK CLUB you can either adopt a new book for your birthday or if you don’t do birthdays, you can just adopt the book because it’s a Star!

Third - Just tell Mrs. Scholz that you loved reading a certain book and you want your picture taken

with that book.  Your picture will then go on the reading board.
