Library Information

Library Hours:

9:05 a.m. - 3:55 p.m.

The Belle Ryan Library opens its doors in the mornings to students at 9:05 a.m..

The library stays open after school from 3:55 p.m. until 4:15 p.m..  

Students are invited to the library before and after school to:

read, research, return books, check out new books, and work on assignments.

If your child plans to come to the library after school, permission must be given by a parent/guardian.  This should be arranged before coming to school

Author Visits

During the school year Belle Ryan invites a children's author or two to visit our school.  Check back soon to find out who will be coming to the Belle Ryan Library during the 2013-14 school year.

Library Policies and Procedures



  • All materials must be checked out before being removed from the library
  • All students check out books during library classes
  • Books should be returned on the next check out day or sooner 
  • There is no fine for an overdue book
  • There is a fine for damaged or lost books and materials 
  • Fines for damaged books will be deteremined by my ability to mend the book
  • If the book is not repairable, a replacement fine will be assessed
  • Lost book fines will be according to the replacement cost


Students are reminded during each library class period to inspect the books for damage and report such damage to the librarian before leaving the library.  

This is to eliminate responsibility for a damaged book that was not the fault of the student.

During library time students experience the following:  check out books, instruction on library skills (how to use the library), instruction on research techniques, exposed to good literature, and given practice with computers.  Library classes integrate the regular class subject material with research and study skills.

All students are expected to be kind, be respectful, be responsible, and be safe in the library.

The Omaha Public Schools Library Media Centers are active centers of learning where students and teachers, individually or in small groups or whole classes, are gathering information and using it creatively, exchanging ideas, and learning together and where library media specialists lead learning experiences for staff and students that create new understandings and a love of reading.

The Omaha Public Schools Library Media Centers enable students to be critical thinkers and effective users and producers of information through rigorous and relevant learning experiences that develop a lifelong love of reading and learning.
