Curriculum Day for Secondary Librarians September 18, 2020: The Reading Strategies Book

Overview

Session Requirements

Some of the options below requires advance planning and preparation. Please read the options carefully and come prepared if the option requires.

Option 1

Study Guide # 9 Planning Prompts

Using The Reading Strategies Book Study Guide, follow the directions on pages 16-17, Planning Prompts. Extend the study by conferring with 1 or more colleagues to get feedback on your prompts. Then add to or refine the prompts you will use.

In the OPS School Libraries notebook, record the strategy, your prompts and a short reflection of the effectiveness of this activity.

This may align with your school SIP goals, and it aligns with the OPS Strategic Plan (supporting literacy).

Option 2

Study Guide #4 Visualize It!

Choose one of the strategies from The Reading Strategies Book that you wish to use with a particular group. Read through all of the information about this strategy.  Keeping in mind the age, learning style, reading level, etc. of this group, create a visual that will work with your lesson.

This activity may be done on your own, or with one or more colleagues.

Post your visual along with a description of the group with whom you will use it(age level, grade level, defining features such as EL or ACP, etc.) in the OPS School Libraries notebook.

This may align with your school SIP goals, and it aligns with the OPS Strategic Plan (supporting literacy).

Option 3

Ideas for Remote Teaching.

Reflecting on the Ideas

  • Choose two of Jennifer's ideas for remote teaching (I especially liked 14 Ideas for Remote Learning by Jennifer Seravallo and Friends as well as the videos). and write a reflection about how you plan to use / strengthen these ideas in your instruction.
  • Submit your reflections in the OPS School Libraries notebook.

This may align with your school SIP goals, and it aligns with the OPS Strategic Plan (supporting literacy).
